CFA Eligibility

To get eligible to enter the CFA Program, you must:

  • Have a U.S bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Or be in the final year of your bachelor’s degree program at the time of registration.
  • Or have 4 years of full time professional work experience (does not have to be investment related).
  • Or a combination of education and work making it a total of 4 years at the time of registration.
  • Should be able to take the exam in English.
  • Should have a valid travel passport.

CFA Registration and Fee

If the candidate meets the eligibility criteria for CFA Certification, then to enter in the CFA program candidates have to pay a one-time registration fee of $450 USD when you register for first time for CFA Level I. In addition to the registration fee the candidate have to pay separately for each levels of CFA.

Each level of the CFA program has different fee criteria based on registration dates.

  • Early registration for CFA Level I, II, and III costs $700 USD each (5-6 months before test date).
  • Standard registration for CFA Level I, II, and III costs $1,000 USD each (4-1 months before test date).

CFA Level I

There has been a lot of changes and updated the exam pattern, exam dates and windows in 2021.
According to the new structure CFA exams have been shifted from traditional paper based exam to completely computer based exams and have increased the examination windows from twice a year to 4 times in a year in February, May, August, and November (with addition of an extra exam window specifically for 2021 in March and July).
Another major change is in the number of questions and exam duration.
The number of questions is now reduced from 240 to 180 divided in 2 sessions of morning and afternoon. Each session has 90 questions and 2 hours and 15 minutes long.
The Minimum Passing Score (MSP) for CFA Level I is approximately between 60 -70%.

Exam Topics and Weightage for CFA Level I:

  • Ethical and Professional Standards: 15%
  • Quantitative Methods: 10%
  • Economics: 10%
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: 15%
  • Corporate Finance: 10%
  • Portfolio Management and Wealth Management: 6%
  • Equity Investments: 11%
  • Fixed Income: 11%
  • Derivative Investments: 6%
  • Alternative Investments: 6%

Level I exam has Multiple choice questions, and the result for CFA Level I is available within 60 days of taking the exam.

CFA Level II

Same as CFA Level I, CFA Level II also has similar changes and updated the exam pattern, exam dates and windows in 2021.
According to the new structure the CFA Level II exams have been shifted from traditional paper based exam to completely computer based exams and have increased the examination windows from once in a year to 2 times in a year in February and August from 2022 (May, August, and November for 2021 only).
Another major change is in the number of questions and exam duration. The exam is divided in 2 sessions of morning and afternoon. Each session is of 2 hours and 15 minutes long.
The Minimum Passing Score (MSP) for CFA Level II is approximately between 60 -70%.

Level II exam has Vignette-Supported Multiple choice questions, and the result for CFA Level II is available within 60 days of taking the exam.

CFA Level III

Similar to CFA Level I and II, Level III exam have been changed and implemented the updated exam pattern, exam dates and windows in 2021.
According to the new structure CFA Level III exams have been shifted from traditional paper based exam to completely computer based exams and have increased the examination windows from once in a year to twice in a year in May and November 2022 (May, August, and November for 2021 only).

Another major change is in the number of questions and exam duration. The exam is divided in 2 sessions of morning and afternoon. Each session is of 2 hours and 15 minutes long.
The Minimum Passing Score (MSP) for CFA Level I is approximately between 60 -70%.
